Areas of Expertise
Psychotherapy
Are you new to therapy? Maybe you have been before, but did not have the best experience. Are you feeling 'stuck' in some area of your life? At times, many of us can feel trapped. Often, we may find ourselves in unfulfilling relationships, jobs we dislike, routines that feel stagnant, wishing that we could make changes while being incapable of doing so.
I want to help you feel better. My psychotherapy approach is primarily psychodynamic with elements of trauma-informed care, attachment theory and mindfulness.
I aim to operate collaboratively with you as I believe you are the expert on your life experiences and I value that information in structuring our work together. We will look closely at different areas of your life to better understand factors that are, and are not supporting you. We will discuss the connection between your physical and emotional wellbeing. We might look at the ways attachment style is impacting your relationships. We will also work to identify patterns and make changes to what might feel stagnant or unsupportive.
Medication Management
I offer personalized treatment when prescribing medications for adults. Treatment recommendations are based on a complete history, evaluations, questionnaires, targeted laboratory testing, as well as patient preference. I offer evidence-based pharmaceutical treatments with complimentary mind-body medicine to promote health and wellbeing. The most effective treatment approach usually involves a combination of medication and psychotherapy. For those already engaging in psychotherapy, I provide medication management sessions alone.
Psychiatric Evaluations
If you are new to considering different treatment options, it is normal to have questions surrounding the initial steps. The first stage of treatment is a psychiatric evaluation. You will be asked how long you have been having certain symptoms, your personal or family history of psychiatric care, your medical history, any treatment you may have already received and the ways you might be trying to manage symptoms on your own. A developmental and social history will also be taken. Many of these questions may feel invasive, however, it is necessary to answer as honestly as possible for an exact diagnosis to be made. The length of time varies from person to person, but usually takes between 50-80 minutes. Evaluations can be completed virtually or in person.
